UNM’s first clinical informatics fellow, Dr. Vipul Bodar, is on track to be the first physician to complete the fellowship in October of this year and has already accepted a job as the Deputy Chief Health Information Officer at the Albuquerque VA.
Dr. Bodar completed residency in internal medicine in New York in 2016 and started the UNM fellowship in the fall of the same year. During the fellowship, as part of his required curriculum, he helped lead a lean process improvement project to streamline the prescription process for controlled substances in the UNM Health System. He also led a process improvement project to streamline the login process on the iPads provided to physicians at the Albuquerque VA that allows them to access the VA’s electronic health record from home. He also designed some reports using Tableau for the database being developed to support antibiotic stewardship in the UNM Health System.
Dr. Bodar is a board certified, general internist and actively practices medicine in the general medicine clinic at UNM’s Southwest Mesa Clinic. He will continue to practice general internal medicine at the Albuquerque VA as part of his new job responsibilities there. We wish Dr. Bodar all the best with his future endeavors!!
