Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) - This federal agency conducts and sponsors research on health care quality, safety, and cost effectiveness. Many useful reports including Patient Safety and Quality: An Evidence-Based Handbook for Nurses.

Commonwealth Fund - Private foundation that supports independent research for improved health care practice and policy.  Includes a Chart-Cart with downloadable charts.

Healthy People 2020 - A comprehensive set of disease prevention and health promotion objectives for the United States.  It identifies a wide range of public health priorities and specific measurable objectives.

Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) - Private nonprofit foundation focuses on major health care issues facing the nation. Operates specialized websites for state health data, health and the election, global health, and health policy teaching and learning.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) - RWJF and its grantees produce research and data that focus on complex health and health care issues facing the U.S. Findings of grant reports, as well as other publications, are available in the Publications and Research section.

Urban Institute : Health/Healthcare - Independent nonpartisan organization that gathers and analyzes data, conducts policy research and evaluates programs and services related to issues of national priority.

US Department of Health and Human Services: Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) - The primary federal agency for improving access to health care services for people who are uninsured, isolated, or medically vulnerable. Note the Geospatial Data Warehouse - a resource for reporting and mapping HRSA data.
