Checkout Wellness! At Your Library

This past semester you may have noticed some changes to the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC) and the services we have been providing for HSC students of the Health Sciences. Last summer, as part of a larger project here at the Library to focus on the ways in which we contribute to student success in the health sciences, we decided a key part of making sure our students are successful is to do what we can to care for their mental and physical health. The HSLIC Student Wellness Committee was formed back in June, 2018, and charged with brainstorming and implementing initiatives that focus on what the Library can do to help promote student wellness. In our first semester, we held eight different events: we were at the Welcome Back Day providing information about the program; we provided a chair yoga session; two meditation/mindfulness sessions; free coffee on International Coffee Day; therapy dogs; a Gratitude tree; and coffee and snacks two days during the weeks our students are studying the hardest for finals.

Here are some pictures of these events!

We look forward to continuing these great events in the coming semesters as we trying to home in on the best way to impact the lives of our students. We have some things coming down the chute for next semester already! We have a couple of board games that we've purchased (Operation and Pandemic) that will be available for checkout starting in January, 2019. We purchased our own large, restaurant-style coffee maker so that we can have coffee events more frequently throughout the semester. We have also had some discussions about getting sporting equipment so that students can take a break from studying and spend some time playing together on the lawn in front of the library!
