ClinicalKey Canceled

Just a reminder that ClinicalKey has been canceled and will not be accessible after July 1, 2020. Due to lack of growth in the library’s collection budget and Red circle with line through itincreasing publisher costs and inflation rates, HSLIC projected a budget shortfall in FY20. While HSLIC received an additional $100,000 for the collection budget for FY21, it was not enough to maintain current subscriptions.

Decisions on which resources to cancel are based on overall cost, whether the resource is locked into a multi-year deal, and whether or not the resource is purchased as part of a consortial agreement. Primary sources and access to materials with perpetual licensing were also heavily weighted in favor of keeping in the collection.  While ClinicalKey was a highly used resource, it was also highly priced, not locked into a multi-year deal, and access to materials are non-perpetual.

The decision to cancel ClinicalKey was not made lightly. We consulted with the HSC deans, the education associate deans, and we also met with representatives from UME and GME in the School of Medicine. It was agreed that canceling ClinicalKey was preferable to canceling access to primary resources found in our major journal packages.
