HSLIC’s R for Reproducible Scientific Analysis workshop was a big success!

A week before last, HSLIC in collaboration with CTSC, University Libraries, and EPSCoR hosted a hybrid workshop –  R for Reproducible Scientific Analysis. While we recognize how difficult it can be with busy work schedules to commit to three hours a day for a week, we had 30 dedicated learners who could participate.  These learners were from CON, COP, CTSC, SOM, Project ECHO, and Anthropology; and included faculty, graduate students, research staff, data analyst, and others.

The pre- and post- workshop surveys indicate positive successful knowledge gained from this workshop.Graph of change in self-reported skill and confidence levels pre- and post-workshop (n=19)

Read what our learners had to say:

First time learning about R. The workshop today was easy to follow and I look forward to learning more tomorrow.”

“I have been really excited about this course and today might have been my favorite part [reference to cleaning/exploring data]. I know that I need to practice a ton in R to actually code. Now that I have a basic understanding of the different things we can do in R, I really enjoyed learning about the different ways we can explore and visualize our own data. That will be helpful for me in my future work.”

“I appreciate the pace and the frequent checking-in with attendees to make sure we're all on the same page.”

Next fall, we are planning two three-day introductory trainings to R programming:

            Sept 11-13, 1:30-4:30 pm

            Oct 18-20. 1:30-4:30 pm

Followed by two more advanced sessions focusing on cleaning and modeling your data:

            Nov 2-3, 1:00-5:00 pm

            Nov 16-17, 1:00-5:00 pm

Mark your calendars and look for more announcements at the HSLIC Event Calendar.
