3rd Floor Remodel Update

by Laura Hall on 2019-09-06T13:58:13-06:00 | 0 Comments

The library’s 3rd floor remodel project is well underway! Our construction team, Two Bears, has cleared the floor and is getting the space ready for new finishes.  They are currently cleaning the old concrete floors and working on the electrical outlets in the floor.

Our new carpet has arrived and is acclimating to the space.  We anticipate the carpet installation will begin by the middle of next week. The new carpet made by Interface is made of at least 66% recycled materials, using 99% renewable energy.  The carpet will float on the top of the concrete, and uses an adhesive with low VOC.  We are excited about the low environmental impact of this product, as it reduces UNM’s carbon footprint in a responsible manner.

By removing the old carpet and stacks, 95 electrical outlets were exposed and Two Bears is working to make these operable.  This will increase locations where you will be able to plug-in devices in our new study spaces.

As with any construction project, our timeline has slipped a bit.  We are anticipating project completion will be closer to the end of October.  Please continue to see our message boards for the most up-to-date information.

One of the more remarkable transitions that is already taking place is the improvement to the lighting on the 3rd floor.  Removing the bound journals along with UNM Facilities Management replacing the old lamps in our overhead fixtures, has dramatically improved the look and feel of the space.  We are excited to share this with you!
