Amy at service point deskHSLIC is excited to welcome Amy Weig-Pickering as the evening LIS III.  She works at the Service Point in the afternoons and evenings until closing.  Amy earned her MLS from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and has a BA in American Studies from SUNY at Buffalo.  She and her husband honeymooned in New Mexico and moved here after living in New York City.  She has worked in several local libraries as a youth services librarian and has Level I and II elementary school teaching certificates.  Amy started at UL in 2016 as an on-call LIS I and then LIS II.   We are excited to welcome her to the team.

While Amy was in graduate school, she was pregnant with her first child. The baby was due at the end of December, but she decided to come early. When Amy went into labor it was not difficult, so she decided to try and complete her final paper while in the beginning stages of labor. The labor progressed rather quickly, and the baby was born in the back seat of the car while on the way to the hospital during New York City rush hour traffic. Good news- the baby was fine and eventually the paper was completed.
