Due to lack of growth in the library’s collection budget and increasing publisher costs and inflation rates, HSLIC projected a buRed circle with line through itdget shortfall in FY20. While HSLIC received an additional $100,000 for the collection budget for FY21, it is still not enough to maintain current subscriptions in FY21.

Effective July 1, 2020, HSLIC will not renew ClinicalKey. This includes ebooks and ejournals.  For a complete list of unique titles affected by this cancelation, please see HSLIC's Proposed Resource Cancelation Guide. Decisions on which resources to cancel are based on overall cost, whether the resource is locked into a multi-year deal, and whether or not the resource is purchased as part of a consortial agreement. Primary sources and access to materials with perpetual licensing were also heavily weighted in favor of keeping.  While ClinicalKey is highly used, it is also highly priced, not locked into a multi-year deal, and access to materials are non-perpetual.

Based on feedback from meeting with HSC faculty groups, we have renewed VisualDX and will recommend renewing Micromedex and StatRef in FY21.  We sent out a survey to faculty for feedback on trials that we are running for the LWW Health Libraries including the BRS Series, Medical Education, and PA Core collections as possible replacements for lost content in ClinicalKey.  Based on the results from that survey, we are requesting quotes for those products and are also looking into potential specialty packages from ClinicaKey that may provide a small subset of the ebook titles that were available in the larger package.

Laura Hall and I are interested in discussing other options for purchasing replacement titles to meet the needs of students.  If you have options that you would like to recommend or if you would like to provide other feedback regarding HSLIC's resources, please fill out the Resource Feedback Form.
