HSLIC extends your access to information with interlibrary loan (ILL). ILL is a way to access resources—including books and journal articles—that are not available in our collection.
How Does It Work?
In simple terms, you request a book or article that the library doesn’t have, and we borrow it for you from another library. Here's how it works:
- Submit a request. Submit your requests online using ILLiad , which is integrated with our WorldCat catalog. Let us know what material you need, such as the title, author, publication year, and other relevant information.
- We find a lender. After your request is submitted, our interlibrary loan team uses our network of partnerships and consortia to locate the requested material at another library.
- Book and article delivery. Once located, the requested material—whether it's a physical book or a digital copy of an article—is delivered to you. Physical materials take about 2 weeks to arrive at the library where they are held at our front desk for pickup. Article scans take an average of 2 days to deliver and are sent to your ILLiad account for you to download.
- Loan period. Physical ILL materials come with a loan period set by the lending library. Article scans remain in your ILLiad account for 30 days for you to save or print for future use.
Using your HSC Net ID and password, all HSC students, faculty, and staff can access our ILL services at no cost to themselves. There are a few items we are unable to get for you including textbooks, entire ebooks (we can request a chapter), multimedia (e.g., DVDs, streaming video), and test-prep resources.
As always, if you have questions about library resources and services, we are happy to help. Reach out to us using Ask a Librarian, or email our ILL team directly.
