Free or Extended Access to Ebooks & Ejournals

A number of vendors and publishers have offered free resources to universities and students that have experienced disruptions to education due to COVID19. This guide lists resources relevant to health sciences education and will continue to be updated as more resources become available. Please note that most of these resources will only be available until the end of the Spring Semester.

Project Muse
Project MUSE is pleased to support its participating publishers in making scholarly content temporarily available for free on our platform. Publishers currently opting to make content free on Project MUSE are Johns Hopkins University Press (all books and journals), Ohio State University Press (all books and journals), University of Nebraska Press (all books and journals), University of North Carolina Press (all books), Temple University Press (all books), and Vanderbilt University Press (selected books).
ScienceDirect
The 256 textbooks currently on ScienceDirect Education have been added to HSLIC's catalog. For a list of titles, click on the above link and download the excel spreadsheet. Available until August 31, 2020.
Libretexts Medicine Library
Welcome to the Medicine Library. This Living Library is a principal hub of the LibreTexts project, which is a multi-institutional collaborative venture to develop the next generation of open-access texts to improve postsecondary education at all levels of higher learning. The LibreTexts approach is highly collaborative where an Open Access textbook environment is under constant revision by students, faculty, and outside experts to supplant conventional paper-based books.
Hathitrust Emergency Temporary Access Service program
Offers digital copies of over 800,000 titles from UNM University Libraries physical collections, including copyright-protected works:
1.Click the yellow LOG IN button, select University of New Mexico as your institution, and enter your netid and password
2. Search for a specific item or broader topic
3. Look for the Temporary Access link in your search results
4. 1 hour check out (unlimited renewals). Return a title early to allow others access
5. You may download 1 page from a copyright-protected title

12 ejournals have been added to the catalog. Ejournals and articles can be found by searching HSLIC's catalog.
BioOne Complete
In collaboration with the Association of Research Libraries, BioOne and their publishers have made articles related to coronavirus in the following journals available via open access through 2020. These can be found by searching HSLIC's catalog.
Frontiers
Frontiers is a leading Open Access Publisher and Open Science Platform. The ejournals and articles are accessible through HSLIC's catalog.
Microbiology Society
"The Microbiology Society is a membership charity for scientists interested in microbes, their effects and their practical uses.
It is one of the largest microbiology societies in Europe with a worldwide membership based in universities, industry, hospitals, research institutes and schools offering all open access content." This content is accessible through HSLIC's catalog.
