It's important to know that even though scholarly databases are extremely valuable tools, they are not the only resources worth using. On this page you will find a mix of databases and other resources that are helpful in assisting patients with their care. Another useful place to look is also of course Google or other search engines. No matter where we are searching we want to make sure we critically evaluate our resources as that is a better indicator of how useful and authoritative they are.

Quick Tip: Just because a database might be more academic or scholarly doesn't mean it is immune to biases and isms.
Google, and more appropriately Google Scholar, can be valid places to search for articles and organizations. However, subject specific databases will have more advanced search options and articles. Here are some key differences between databases and Google.

You can set up Google Scholar to see if you have full text access to articles provided by UNM libraries. Go to settings, search for University of New Mexico in "Library Links" and select it. Once this has been done you will see the "Check Full Text @ UNM" option in your results. A PDF with instructions is also listed below.
