Virtual Reality at HSLIC

HSLIC offers six Oculus Quest 2 units for checkout (3 day loan period). These are standalone units that are ready to operate without any account setup required.
HSLIC's VR Lab on the 4th Floor provides an ideal space for VR use and includes the VIVE system. Oculus Quest 2 can also be used in the VR Lab.
Several licensed apps are available to enhance medical education.
Both the VIVE system and Oculus Quest 2 include free mindfulness and meditation apps.

J Med Internet Res 2020;22(9):e18290 doi: 10.2196/18290 The results of this study suggest that VR can effectively improve knowledge in nursing education, but it was not more effective than other education methods in areas of skills, satisfaction, confidence, and performance time. Further rigorous studies with a larger sample size are warranted to confirm these results.

This scoping review will identify any gaps in this field and provide suggestions for future research.

The Annals of The Royal College of Surgeons of England 2020 102:9, 672-684. doi: 10.1308/rcsan This meta-analysis shows that virtual reality not only improves efficiency in the trainee’s surgical practice but also improves quality with reduced error rates and improved tissue handling.
