The purpose of this funding is to strengthen the professional knowledge and experience of individual network members within Region 4 in data science or health information access/delivery, build professional capacity in support of the mission of the NNLM, and enable libraries and other organizations to train staff in skills needed to deliver reliable health information. Awards are usually for up to $2,000. Performance period is usually June 1 through April 30 of the following year. Applications are usually due in late spring, though funding agency sometimes has a rolling deadline if funding is still available past the initial application deadline.

The purpose of the Medical Library Association (MLA) Continuing Education (CE) Grant is to provide members with the opportunity to develop their knowledge of the theoretical, administrative, or technical aspects of librarianship. More than one continuing education grant may be awarded in a year. The grant may be used for MLA opportunities offered through MEDLIB-ED or other CE activities. The opportunity is open to MLA members. Funding is available for up to $500. Applications open in August for the next calendar year, with a submission deadline of December 1.

This award encourages SCC/MLA chapter members to participate in the Medical Library Association's Academy of Health Information Professional (AHIP) credentialing program. Up to 10 awards will be given each calendar year.

To qualify, applicants must be current members of both SCC and MLA and a first-time applicant for AHIP membership at any level, and they must have submitted complete AHIP documentation to MLA and received notification that AHIP membership was successfully awarded. Award winners are eligible to receive the award only once and will be reimbursed for their personal payment of the AHIP application fee.

This award – which was named for William D. Postell, Sr., in recognition of his dedication to medical librarianship – partially or completely covers registration fees and travel-related expenses for an SCC/MLA member to enroll in a continuing education course or workshop.

Applicants should demonstrate how this course or workshop will offer preparation for future professional responsibilities, provide a unique opportunity not normally experienced by SCC/MLA members, and serve to benefit SCC/MLA colleagues.

A total of $4,000.00 will be available to fund SCC/MLA members' continuing education experiences this year.

To qualify, applicants must be SCC members with an MLS (or equivalent) and work in a professional position. Applicants who have received an award within the last three (3) years are ineligible.
