HSLIC LibGuides Style Guide

This guide is intended for HSLIC employees to assist in the creation of their guides.

Each Guide Must Have a Type

When creating guides you must select what type of guide it is. This is to help with discoverability as users can sort by these types on the LibGuides landing page. Below are the types and what they represent/why you would select them.

  1. How-To: Allows us to demonstrate how patrons can utilize certain tools, applications, or search strategies. Examples include PubMed, Finding Full Text, Zotero, and Citing Sources.
  2. Subject Guide: Offers one place for patrons to start research on a particular subject or field of study or to find information about a specific group/topic. The term subject is not being used in the sense of a subject heading, but rather to designate guides that are about something specific. Examples include Nursing, Pharmacy, Community Patrons, and New Materials at HSLIC.
  3. Course Guide: Support for specific objectives for classes. You can link to these from a subject guide, but they are intended to be utilized for a specific course. These guides should be unpublished when the class is not in session (so for instance, if the guide was for a class in fall 2019 it should be taken down at the end of the fall and only put back up when the class is back in session).
  4. Internal Guide: Resources for HSLIC specifically that might support specific duties and/or professional growth that you want to be private. These guides will automatically only be accessible to those with LibApps access and/or with a link to the resource. They will not be shown in the public list of our guides.

You Do Not Need to Worry About Groups

  • You don't need to select a group for your guide.
